Georgia Driver Services Scandal: Four Indicted in Major Fraud Case Unveiled

ATLANTA (WRBL) — In an unfolding case of alleged financial misconduct, four individuals from different counties in Georgia are now under indictment for reportedly forging checks using the Department of Driver Services (DDS) information, as announced by Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr on Thursday.

The individuals accused in this scheme are Aieriana Turner, 25, hailing from Columbus; Nakesha Bryant, 40, from Richland; Ashanti Asberry, 26, of Lawrenceville; and Daria Martin, 25, from Bremen. They stand accused of fraudulently creating and cashing checks that bore the insignia of Georgia DDS, exploiting confidential DDS information, and subsequently depositing these funds into their personal bank accounts.

The total value of the fraudulent checks across all four cases amounts to $53,616.02.

None of the accused had any employment ties or legitimate business dealings with the DDS.

In a statement emphasizing the seriousness of the situation, Attorney General Carr declared, “We’re fighting to ensure every tax dollar is protected – not pocketed by criminals. Let me be clear – if you steal from the state and hardworking Georgians, you will be identified and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Fraud and theft won’t be tolerated, no matter the amount.”

The defendants face the following charges:

  • Turner- two counts of theft by taking, two counts of forgery
  • Bryant- one count of theft by taking, one count of forgery
  • Asberry- one count of theft by taking, one count of forgery
  • Martin- one count of theft by taking, one count of forgery
