In Russell County, Virginia, an investigation into a phone scam has led to the arrest of two men from Georgia.
The Russell County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) announced the arrests of Dapri Da’Mann Eugene Lewis, 26, from Atlanta, and Quindarius De’Shawn Gibbs, 26, from Fairburn, on Tuesday.
“The arrests followed information received by an officer of the Russell County Sheriff’s Office regarding a fraudulent scheme,” stated Sheriff William J. Watson. He explained that the suspects had previously contacted the victim and deceived them into handing over money. Investigators collaborated with the victim in the Castlewood area to devise a strategy to apprehend the culprits.
In a coordinated effort involving the RCSO, Virginia State Police, Wise County Sheriff’s Office, and Coeburn Police Department, Lewis and Gibbs were taken into custody when they attempted to retrieve money from the victim.
Both individuals face charges of obtaining money through false pretenses and conspiracy.
“This is a great example of how agencies can pull together quickly to assist one another when crimes are reported or currently in the process of being committed,” Watson said in the release.
