STATESBORO, Ga. — Georgia Southern University has unveiled its inaugural “care station” kiosk, courtesy of its Institute for Health Logistics and Analytics (IHLA), as announced by the university on Tuesday.

This kiosk operates round-the-clock, offering a variety of crucial health and wellness items. Among the stocked goods are pain relievers, glucose tablets, feminine hygiene supplies, and STI testing kits.

Strategically situated at 58 E. Main Street in the heart of downtown Statesboro, the kiosk requires payment, which is conveniently facilitated through mobile digital wallets, as per the university’s press release.

Jennifer Drey, the project lead and IHLA’s community outreach coordinator, shared insights with the press on Tuesday, highlighting how statewide research laid the foundation for this initiative.

“Our extensive work across various rural communities in Georgia has underscored the demand for better access to health and wellness products,” Drey remarked. “Statesboro shares this need, prompting us to prioritize bringing this resource to our local community first.”

Drey said the current inventory will evolve as customers use the care stations.

“What’s in it now can very much change and will very much change based on what we see and what the community tells us and how they want to see it stocked and used,” she said.

To help ensure the project meet community needs, IHLA encourages Statesboro and Bulloch County residents to share anonymous feedback through an online form.

The Statesboro kiosk is just the first one. Drey and the news release both said the plan is to expand and place a machine to Vidalia soon.
