STATESBORO, Ga. — Although Georgia Southern stumbled on Saturday, the team has exceeded pre-season expectations that pegged them for a 10th-place finish in the conference.
Their recent encounter with South Alabama resulted in their first conference loss this season, halting an impressive nine-game winning streak for GSU.
Currently, the team holds a 12-6 record overall, with a 4-1 standing in Sun Belt Conference play, placing them in a tie for second with Arkansas State.
Remarkably, four Eagles players are scoring in double figures, with Spudd Webb leading the pack at an average of 16.5 points per game.
Head coach Charlie Henry remains optimistic, stating that despite a strong start, the team continues to improve with each game.
“It’s really just seeing the guys pull together, play together and take joy in each other’s success,” Henry said. “That’s really what you want as a coach. You really want a group that maximizes what they have. We’re not there yet, but I think we’re moving closer to that. I can see it. I can see it coming to fruition.
The Eagles will have a three-game homestand, starting with a matchup against Old Dominion on Saturday, Jan. 17.
