STATESBORO, Ga. — Georgia Southern University announced on Thursday that it has extended the contract of men’s basketball coach Charlie Henry, securing his leadership through the 2029-2030 season.

“I’m thrilled to continue developing our basketball program here at Georgia Southern,” Henry expressed in a statement.

Henry’s contract extension comes after a remarkable season for the Eagles, who celebrated their first 20-win season in seven years. The team also came within one game of clinching a Sun Belt Conference tournament title and a spot in the NCAA tournament.

The Eagles, entering the Sun Belt Conference tournament as the No. 10 seed, made history by winning five consecutive games in five days. This achievement made them only the third team in NCAA history to pull off such a feat.

Ultimately, the Eagles fell to Troy in the conference tournament championship game, missing out on their first NCAA tournament appearance since the 1991-1992 season.

Athletic Director Chris Davis said, “Today is a great day for our men’s basketball program as we announce the contract extension for Charlie Henry. Charlie has brought the stability and leadership that’s essential in today’s college basketball landscape.

Each season has seen consistent improvements under his tutelage that have been record-setting on and off the court. His historic run in the Sun Belt Tournament that captivated all of Eagle Nation is a clear reflection of the belief, toughness and culture that he has built.”

In three seasons at the helm, Henry’s teams have increased their win totals each year.

Speaking about his extension, Henry said, “My family and I love Georgia Southern and the Statesboro community. I am blessed to be your basketball coach. HAIL SOUTHERN and GATA!”
