STATESBORO, Ga. — The women’s basketball team at Georgia Southern University is on the brink of reaching a significant milestone this season, with an important game scheduled for Thursday.

The Lady Eagles are aiming to secure their first victory in a Division I NCAA-sponsored tournament game, marking a pivotal achievement in the program’s history.

The team earned an automatic spot in the Women’s Basketball Invitational after clinching their inaugural Sun Belt regular-season conference title.

Despite a brief stint in the Sun Belt tournament in Pensacola, where they exited after one game, the Eagles remain determined to bounce back strong.

Key players like Kishyah Anderson, who earned the title of conference player of the year, along with standout performers Destiny Garrett and McKenna Eddings, will be central to Georgia Southern’s efforts as they head into the tournament.

“I feel like we did the hard part on winning the regular season championship and then to continue to play in the postseason,” Anderson said. “I’m very blessed we were able to get this opportunity to play.”

McKenna Eddings added, “We have taken on an ACC team before and an SEC team, so it’s really nothing new. I’m just making sure everybody is bought in and making sure we’re going to put our best foot forward.”

Georgia Southern faces off with Miami on Thursday at 7 p.m.
