WAYCROSS, Ga. () — A Georgia State Trooper was injured in a collision Wednesday when his car overturned and landed in a creek during a chase.

Trooper Justin Jones

According to Georgia State Patrol Captain Crystal Zion, trooper Justin Jones conducted a traffic stop in Ware County. The suspect fled the scene and Trooper Jones pursued in his vehicle.

The Trooper attempted a precision immobilization technique (PIT). After performing the PIT, Jones’ vehicle traveled onto the shoulder of the road and overturned into a creek. The suspect’s vehicle landed upright on top of the patrol vehicle.

Trooper Jones became unconscious after being submerged in the creek. Lifesaving measures were performed on Jones at the scene. Once in stable condition, Jones was flown to Memorial Hospital in Savannah.

The suspect was arrested on scene by officers after he attempted to flee on foot.
