ATLANTA — In a dramatic encounter on Tuesday, Georgia Southern’s men’s basketball team faced off against Georgia Tech, a game that ultimately ended in heartache for the Eagles as they fell to 0-5 against their long-time opponents.

Georgia Southern started strong, with Nakavieon White leading the charge. Midway through the opening half, White expertly maneuvered past the defense to connect with Andres Burdey, pushing the Eagles to a six-point lead.

White’s impressive performance continued to shine, allowing Southern to enter the halftime break with a slender one-point advantage. As the second half commenced, the Eagles managed to cling to their lead until Georgia Tech leveled the score at 40-40, with 16 minutes remaining on the clock.

The intensity of the game escalated throughout the second half, with every point fiercely contested. When Tech’s Peyton Marshall executed a layup, Georgia Southern found themselves trailing by four. However, the Eagles’ Khayri Dunn quickly countered with a precise three-point jumper, keeping the game within reach.

As the clock wound down, the Yellow Jackets managed to pull ahead, securing a five-point lead with just 19 seconds left, ultimately sealing the fate of Georgia Southern in this closely fought battle.

White made a three-point jumper, closing the gap by three points, but the Eagles ultimately lost by two points, 68-66.

Georgia Southern will continue play against ACC competition Friday when they take on Florida State in Tallahassee at 6 p.m.
