Storm Team 3: Seasonable afternoons ahead, cooler late-week temperatures

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Monday afternoon brought a pleasant surprise with mostly sunny skies and warm temperatures gracing the region.

This delightful weather marked a stark contrast to the weekend’s dreary conditions, which were dominated by clouds, rain, and cooler temperatures. Looking ahead, the forecast promises more sunshine and warmth over the next few afternoons.

As the weather system responsible for the gloomy weekend shifts northward, high pressure is expected to establish itself over the Southeast.

This change will usher in clear skies and dry air, pushing temperatures up into the upper 70s and lower 80s from Tuesday through Thursday. The low humidity will add to the comfort of these warm afternoons.

By Friday and Saturday, a cooler air mass is predicted to move in. While afternoon temperatures will still hover in the upper 70s to lower 80s, you’ll notice a chillier start to the mornings.

Friday and Saturday will start out in the low to mid 50s.

The next chance for rain will move in on Sunday and into next Monday as a cold front moves into the southeast. A few passing showers are possible both days along with highs in the lower 80s.

Tuesday and into Wednesday will be slightly cooler.

TRACKING THE TROPICS

A system located 1,100 miles west-southwest in central Atlantic that the National Hurricane Center was monitoring for potential development organized into Tropical Storm Lorenzo early Monday morning.

Lorenzo has sustained wind of 50 mph and gusts as high as 65 mph as of 5 p.m. EDT Monday. It is forecast to maintain strength for a couple of days as it moves northward.

It may gain some strength later this week, but Lorenzo is not expected to become a hurricane.

Tropical Storm Lorenzo poses no threat to land at this time.
