TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. — On Friday, May 1, the scenic South Beach of Tybee Island will be transformed into a captivating art installation by students and alumni from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).

The SCAD Sand Arts Festival is a premier event that turns the beach into a temporary outdoor gallery featuring extraordinary sand sculptures crafted by skilled artists.

This much-anticipated annual festival draws thousands of visitors to Tybee Island, offering a perfect blend of sunshine, entertainment, and creative expression.

SCAD students and alumni form teams to compete across diverse categories such as Sandcastle, Sand Relief, Air, Sand Jam, and SCAD Spirit, showcasing their unique talents.

The roots of the SCAD Sand Arts Festival trace back to the 1990s when SCAD architecture students would journey to Tybee Island for class trips, engaging in friendly competitions to create intricate three-dimensional sand sculptures.
