SAVANNAH, Ga. — On Thursday, Savannah proudly hosted its inaugural Greater Savannah Ghana Business Forum, marking a significant step in fostering trade and investment opportunities between the region and Ghana. The event featured a visit from Ghana’s ambassador to the United States, who was keen to explore potential collaborations.
His Excellency Victor Emmanuel Smith, serving as Ghana’s ambassador to the U.S., engaged with local entrepreneurs, civic leaders, and elected representatives. The aim was to forge stronger economic connections between Savannah and Ghana, paving the way for future partnerships.
“We’re actively seeking individuals interested in forming strategic partnerships with Ghanaians,” Ambassador Smith emphasized, highlighting the mutual benefits of such collaborations.
The forum served as a platform for regional leaders to delve into discussions surrounding trade, cultural exchanges, educational collaborations, and investment opportunities that could arise from a Savannah-Ghana alliance.
Savannah’s Mayor, Van Johnson, underscored the increasing importance of international partnerships, especially as global markets continue to intertwine and offer new potential for growth and cooperation.
“We live in a world that is increasingly small,” Johnson said. “Ghana has a lot of exports that we’re interested in here in the United States, and the United States has opportunities for exports in Ghana. We also have immense cultural and educational opportunities that our communities can share.”
Smith said Ghana offers strong investment potential, citing natural resources, energy, and agriculture as key sectors for growth.
He added that increased investment can create jobs and economic stability within Ghana, reducing the need for people to seek opportunities elsewhere.
Several Savannah-area businesses are already working with partners in Ghana.
Mayor Johnson said he hopes to see those relationships continue to expand.
