SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Girl Scouts from across the nation will gather in Savannah, Georgia — the birthplace of the organization — to cross the Talmadge Bridge. This literal bridge-crossing will be symbolic of the traditional ceremony where Girl Scouts move from one level to the next.
The yearly event, hosted by Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia, is for all ages: from Daisies to Brownies, Brownies to Juniors, all the way up through Ambassadors. The bridge will provide an unforgettable setting for this rite of passage where Girl Scouting began in 1912.
spoke to the new Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia’s new CEO, Krystal Crawford, recently about what it means for troops to come to the place the Girl Scouts started. “The spirit of [Girl Scouts founder] Juliet Gordon Low is alive in Savannah. When the girls come to Savannah, they are in the place our founder lived. They will feel that spirit of Girl Scouts. How inspiring it is to be connected to such a thing. I am excited to share the city of Savannah with Girl Scouts far and wide.”
The “Bridge Savannah’s Bridge” ceremony is Saturday, June 21 at 8 a.m.
