TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Whether you’re a long-time supporter of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or a recent addition to their fanbase, the Glazer family has likely influenced some of your cherished team moments.
In 1995, Malcolm Glazer made headlines by purchasing the Buccaneers for a record-setting $192 million, following the death of the previous owner, Hugh Culverhouse, the year before.
That move set off a chain reaction, ultimately turning the franchise’s luck around.
Latest Buccaneers stories:
Under Glazer’s direction, the team ditched the classic creamsicle jerseys for the current pewter colorway; games became more fan-friendly, with multiple community events and activities surrounding all the action; and the team also moved from the old Sombrero to Raymond James Stadium.
The Glazers were also at the helm when the team won its first Super Bowl against the Raiders in 2003.
While Glazer died from a stroke in 2014, his legacy now lives in the form of his six children, all of which still own the team to this day.
News Channel 8’s Aileen Hnatiuk reports on the Glazer family’s humble beginnings and how they leveraged that into the dynasty Bucs fans know and love today.
