AUSTIN (KXAN) – Texas Governor Greg Abbott has called for residents to pay close attention to travel advisories issued by the U.S. Department of State, following the turmoil in Mexico caused by the recent death of notorious drug kingpin, Nemesio ‘El Mencho’ Oseguera Cervantes of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

Reports from the Associated Press indicate that the Mexican military successfully targeted and killed the cartel leader during a strategic operation to detain him. This high-profile capture represents the Mexican government’s most significant achievement to date in its efforts to demonstrate to the Trump administration its commitment to dismantling drug cartels.

Social media platforms have been flooded with videos showing thick smoke rising above Puerto Vallarta in Jalisco. The Associated Press also reported scenes of chaos as individuals ran frantically through the state capital’s airport.

In response, the Austin airport updated its social media, noting that while Global Entry services are temporarily suspended, PreCheck remains accessible. Travelers are advised to plan for a 2.5-hour lead time before their scheduled departures.
