Could Florida’s Space Coast soon be home to NASA headquarters?

During a news conference at the Kennedy Space Center on Wednesday, Gov. Ron DeSantis talked about the potential of moving the headquarters from the nation’s capital to Florida.

“I was talking to the director before we came out here, there is interest of moving the headquarters of NASA to KSC,” said DeSantis “They have this massive building in D.C. and no one goes to it. Why not just shutter it and move everyone down here?”

DeSantis added that with the new administration coming in, he’s hopeful the move will be considered.

Gov. Ron DeSantis attends the signing of the Florida University Space Research Consortium on Wednesday.

The governor made that announcement while speaking about the creation of the Florida University Space Research Consortium.

In November, the University of Florida, University of Central Florida, and Embry Riddle University became the charter members of the Florida University Space Research Consortium. In partnership with Kennedy Space Center, the charter universities will facilitate the awarding of NASA research grants in partnership with Kennedy Space Center as “the state’s official space research entity.”

Presidents from each of the charter universities were also in attendance as well as Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez.
