A bizarre and violent incident unfolded at a KFC in North Las Vegas, leaving a restaurant employee injured. According to documents obtained by the 8 News Now Investigators, the altercation was sparked by a grievance over gravy. The confrontation led to the arrest of Gerald Carter, 32, and James Carter, 48, both charged with attempted murder involving a deadly weapon.
The chaos erupted on the evening of December 27, when police were dispatched to the KFC located on Craig Road near Martin Luther King Boulevard. They were responding to reports of a customer attacking an employee with a knife. Allegedly, Gerald Carter stabbed the unsuspecting staff member multiple times in the back and side.
As authorities arrived at the scene, they quickly identified and detained Gerald Carter along with James Carter and several others who were leaving the premises. During the arrest, officers discovered a large knife in Gerald Carter’s possession, which they believe was used in the stabbing.
Witness accounts shed light on the incident, revealing that the trouble began when Gerald Carter became enraged over issues with his order’s gravy. Feeling slighted by the staff’s response, he demanded to speak with a manager. Tensions escalated, leading Gerald and James Carter to push their way behind the counter, where a physical altercation with the employees ensued.
According to a witness, Gerald Carter “became upset about his gravy from KFC” and asked to speak with a manager, documents said. At some point, Gerald Carter believed “staff had disrespected him,” which escalated into him and James Carter going “behind the KFC counter” and fighting with employees.
During an interview with police, Gerald Carter admitted to fighting with an employee but denied stabbing anyone, documents said. Gerald Carter said the employee “was calling him names and disrespecting him” before the fight.
Both men remained detained at the North Las Vegas jail as of Tuesday. In court Tuesday, North Las Vegas Justice Court Judge Jonathan Cooper set bail at $100,000 for Gerald Carter and $10,000 for James Carter. Should they post bond, the men will be required to wear an ankle monitor, Cooper ordered.
