CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) — It was a packed house at Bert’s Barracuda Harley Davidson, with riders and enthusiasts alike coming together for one mission, and to meet the man behind it.
YouTube star and philanthropist Adam Sandoval is using his social media platform to raise $1 million for the Wounded Warrior Project. It’s taken three years, but he’s nearly reached his goal.
“Thinking of raising a million dollars in just three years of the Great American Convoy is just mind-blowing. I never expected it to be this big. But now that we’re so close, it’s just a scramble and an effort to hit that goal,” said Sandoval.
This year’s convoy began in San Antonio, Texas, on May 24.
“We rode all to the border in California and Arizona, and now we’re on our way back across the country,” said Sandoval.
Every penny raised is going back to the Wounded Warrior Project. For veterans like Thomas Brown, who runs a local charity outreach for homeless veterans, being involved with the ride takes on a deeper meaning.
“That’s all I deal with, is veterans, especially homeless veterans. I have PTSD, and I run into a lot of veterans with PTSD, and some handle it better than others,” said Brown.
The Great American Convoy will continue their ride through Florida with a final stop in Daytona on June 14.
