A Greenville police officer has returned home after being wounded in a shooting incident that occurred early Sunday morning in Greenville County, South Carolina.
The Greenville Police Department reported that the officer was stationed in his patrol vehicle outside the Greenville County Law Enforcement Center on McGee Street at approximately 1:49 a.m. when a suspect unexpectedly attacked and shot him multiple times.
Following the shooting, the officer was swiftly transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital for medical attention. He has since been discharged and is now recuperating at home with the support of his family.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) indicated that the suspect appeared to have used incendiary ammunition during the assault.
SLED has also released footage of the incident and photographs depicting the damage inflicted on the officer’s patrol vehicle.


According to Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement officers were able to identify a suspect in the shooting.
Deputies reportedly located the suspect’s vehicle off Roper Mountain Road, and a brief chase followed.
The chase ended on Independence Boulevard where the sheriff’s office said deputies exchanged gunfire with the suspect.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:26 a.m.
The Greenville County Coroner’s Office identified the suspect as 42-year-old David William Lane of Greenville.
The coroner’s office ruled Lane’s death a suicide. He was reportedly not shot by law enforcement.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has been called to investigate the shooting of the officer and the officer-involved shooting.
