GROVETOWN, Ga. () – A man has been arrested after a shooting that involved another man who was allegedly shot in the foot with a sawed-off shotgun after an argument.
According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to an address in Grovetown for a reported shooting on the night of Sunday, April 13th, and upon arriving on scene, the caller told responding deputies that the shooting occurred nearby along the 1100 block Dodge Lane that runs adjacent to the Gordon Highway and Augusta State Medical Prison.
After arriving on scene, Columbia County Sheriff’s Deputies state that they were able to determine that the 29-year-old shooting victim ran into 54-year-old Regis Costabile at the residence on Dodge Lane, and according to the incident narrative, Costabile was driving a pickup truck and was there to drop several items off.
A witness to the shooting stated that the victim and Costabile allegedly got into a verbal argument and that the incident quickly escalated when Costabile, according to the witness, reportedly retrieved a sawed-off shotgun from his truck.
The witness told deputies that Costabile pointed the shotgun at the victim and then shot him in the right foot and reportedly said he would shoot a female acquaintance of the victim.
Another witness said that Costabile allegedly asked the victim, “Where is my money?,” and when the victim said he had no money, Costabile allegedly pulled the firearm from his pants and pointed at the female acquaintance of the victim, who the witness says stepped in front of the gun before it was fired, striking the victim’s foot.
Costabile is alleged to have fled the scene and was later located along the 5500 block of Old Augusta Highway where he was taken into custody without incident.
According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Costabile has been charged with the following: Aggravated Assault; Point or Aiming Gun or Pistol at Another; Possession of Certain Firearm/Dangerous Weapon/Sawed-off Shotgun; Possession of Firearm or Knife During Commission or Attempt; Purchase/Possession/Manufacture/Distribution/Sale/Control; Possession of Prohibited Drug Related Objects.
Costabile is currently awaiting trial.
