GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Shots were fired Tuesday morning near the University of Florida’s campus in Gainesville, according to school officials.
Several alerts were issued about shots fired near the main HR building for the University of Florida, located at 903 W. University Ave, which is not on the main campus.
The latest update states the incident involves a barricaded suspect, who is “contained to off campus location.”
UF Alert-Gainesville: (102 NW 9th Ter) Barricaded suspect is contained to off campus location. Continue to avoid the UF HR building, or secure in place. Normal operations may resume on campus.

The university is asking people to avoid the main HR building, and that normal operations can resume on campus.
Traffic near the HR building is being diverted, and West University Avenue is blocked from NW 8th Street and NW 10th Street.
No other information was released.
