HARLAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — A state of emergency has been declared in Harlan County due to the ongoing water shortage.

Residents in the Black Mountain Utility District service area have been without water for over a week. On Saturday, Harlan County Judge Executive Dan Mosley gave an update on efforts to restore water service.

“Tomorrow crews will be expanding their efforts in areas of Bledsoe, Rosspoint, Putney, Baxter. Many of those areas just went out today. Much of the attention today was made where the outages have been out the longest,” Mosley said Saturday. “Those people have been out many for four or five days, some on and off for a period of about ten days.”

The full video of the announcement is available on Facebook.

On Sunday water will be distributed from noon to 4 p.m. to those who needed it at Harlan County High School, Bledsoe Fire Department and Wallins Fire Department.

“Thanks to all of our excellent fire departments for the help and service to their communities with distributing this water. Numerous crews will be out again today finding and repairing problems, and hopefully this water will help you and your families until water can be restored,” posted Harlan County Emergency Management.
