AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta University’s Dr. Paulette P. Harris Literacy Center has been honored with the prestigious 2026 Georgia Reads Community Award, as announced by the Georgia Council on Literacy this past Tuesday. The accolade brings with it a generous grant of $20,000 to bolster the center’s ongoing literacy programs.

The announcement was made on March 3 at the Georgia State Capitol, marking a significant milestone for the center. “This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our learners, tutors, university partners, and community supporters,” remarked Betsy VanDeusen, PhD, the center’s director. “Their relentless efforts ensure that literacy remains a gateway to opportunities for everyone.”

Judi Wilson, EdD, who serves as the dean of AU’s College of Education and Human Development, expressed her gratitude for the center’s enduring impact. “Since 1990, our center has touched the lives of countless children, adolescents, and adults,” she stated. “Dr. Betsy VanDeusen’s exemplary leadership has been instrumental in elevating the center’s influence, and this award is a fitting recognition of her remarkable contributions.”
