In Hawkins County, Tennessee, the local government has enlisted the help of the Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC) as co-counsel in a legal dispute initiated by a cryptocurrency company.
Last month, ExoticRidge Crypto Company LLC filed a lawsuit against the county. In response, the SELC’s Nashville office offered pro bono legal assistance to support the county’s defense. This offer came at the end of April and was aimed at aiding the county without any financial burden.
The lawsuit emerged after Hawkins County halted ExoticRidge’s project to establish a data mining center in Bulls Gap. The cryptocurrency firm criticized the county’s comprehensive prohibition on Bitcoin mines and similar data facilities as overly extensive.
