SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – Two teens tragically lost their lives this week after their car hit a tree and caught fire in Oviedo.

Since then, many neighbors and friends have held vigils and raised money for the family.

News 6 Reporter Jarell Baker spoke with a local business owner who is donating next week’s proceeds to one of the victim’s families.

“They had their whole lives. They had years and years that should not have been taken away from them or their families,” said Deltona resident Megan Pullen.

Flowers, candles, and more now surround the tree off Alafaya Woods Boulevard, where the two victims died in the fiery crash.

“Oviedo Police Department and Oviedo Fire received a call about the vehicle on fire. They responded out here. The vehicle was fully engulfed,” Oviedo police said.

Pullen, a small business owner, is donating all her proceeds this week to the family of 17-year-old Kayla Ross who died in the crash.

“My best friend is a relative of one of the girls who passed away in the car accident earlier this week. It hits close to home and being by myself, it’s a little scary,” she said.

She set up shop at the Osteen Farmers Market Saturday, but after heavy rain rolled through, she moved her business back to her Deltona home.

“I feel for the family and I feel for the mom, especially. Nobody should have to bury their child,” she responded when asked why she felt the need to help.

Pullen says she didn’t know Kayla personally but wanted to support her family during this difficult time.

Kayla’s mother, who did not want to appear on camera, sent this statement:

“We would like to thank everyone who has honored our girls—so deeply loved, so deeply missed, and taken from us far too soon. They will always be remembered for being amazing, beautiful, big-hearted girls who lit up every room with their smiles and gave joy to everyone around them. They were loved by so many, more than words could ever capture.

Seeing our community come together in love, respect, and remembrance has truly restored our faith in humanity. We are so deeply grateful to all the first responders, and we continue to pray for healing for everyone involved. We know our girls would want us to hold onto the good times and the love we shared with them.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to each and every one of you who has helped keep their memory alive. We love you, and we know our angels are still with us always. Though they were taken too soon, they are now in God’s hands.

You are missed beyond words.”

Family of Kayla Ross

The family will be holding a memorial for Kayla Ross at Horse Power Ranch in Geneva, at 3 p.m. next Saturday Aug. 30.

The family says memorial is open to the public and asking attendees to wear Kayla’s favorite colors which are red and black.

If you would like to support the family of Kayla Ross, their GoFundMe can be found here.
