AIKEN, S.C — This Saturday, Aiken will host a unique Easter celebration, emphasizing inclusivity and raising awareness about autism.

The Autism Easter Egg Hunt invites families to enjoy a day filled with joy, connection, and community support.

Dan Perkins, one of the event’s coordinators, explained that the concept emerged from within their group. “Several members of our organization have children on the autism spectrum,” Perkins noted. “That served as our inspiration.”

Now in its second year, the event sees collaboration from eight to ten organizations, all united in supporting families and enhancing awareness.

Attendees can look forward to an afternoon brimming with activities such as Easter egg hunts, live music, and delicious food. Children will have ample chances to play and socialize. Additionally, there will be vendors and informative booths providing insights into autism, including resources for testing and support services.

Perkins says the event is about more than just fun. It’s also about visibility and understanding. “You get to see the children, how they interact, how they play with one another,” he said. A speaker will also be on site to talk about autism and resources available to families.

The event is on March 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Aiken Shrine Temple on Abbeville Avenue. Organizers say volunteers are still welcome to come out and help.
