SANFORD, Fla. – Dramatic footage released by the Sanford Police Department captures the heroic efforts of first responders as they rescued a family dog from a house engulfed in flames.

Early Tuesday, emergency crews were alerted to a fire on Appaloosa Court. Although all adults and children had already escaped to safety, it quickly became apparent to the arriving officers that the family’s husky remained trapped inside, as detailed in an official post.

Video from body-worn cameras, shared on Facebook, reveals Officers Pagan and Diaz bravely entering the smoke-filled residence to retrieve the husky. Despite the video being mostly obscured for privacy, authorities reported that the dog appeared unresponsive within its cage.

Officer Pagan dedicated approximately 30 minutes to the husky’s recovery, providing essential care by cooling it down, offering hydration, and administering oxygen. The heartwarming moment when the dog finally lifted its head brought a wave of relief to the family and was captured in the footage.

Reflecting on the rescue, the post quoted Officer Pagan, stating, “Dogs are family,” echoing the sentiments of many. The post also extended gratitude to the diligent efforts of both Sanford and Seminole County firefighters who were instrumental in tackling the fire.

One person suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital, according to the Sanford Fire Department.
