GOYANG – Canada’s Brooke Henderson teamed up with Wei-Ling Hsu of Taiwan to secure a decisive 4 and 3 victory over Sweden’s Madelene Sagstrom and Ingrid Lindblad on Saturday, propelling the World team into the semifinals of the International Crown.
This triumph marked the World team’s fourth point in Pool B, achieved through a series of three wins and two draws during the LPGA team competition held at the New Korea Country Club.
Later in the day, Sweden’s Maja Stark and Linn Grant claimed a 3 and 1 win against the World team’s duo, Charley Hull and Lydia Ko.
In other developments, Australia advanced to the semifinals from Pool A, while South Korea secured their spot from Pool B.
As Saturday’s final fourball matches approached, the United States had already ensured their semifinal berth from Pool A, thanks to their dominant performance in the initial four matches.
Under the tournament format, seven countries and a “rest of the world” team compete in two pools. The teams and their players were determined by the women’s world ranking.
The top two countries from each pool advance to Sunday’s semifinals and final that consists of one foursomes (alternate shot) and two singles matches.
Last week Sei Young Kim won the BMW Ladies Championship, also in South Korea. The LPGA’s Asian swing continues in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia next week and concludes in Shiga, Japan from Nov. 6-9.
