TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — We are only a few sleeps away from Gasparilla when thousands upon thousands of pirates and people will take over Bayshore Boulevard during the Parade of Pirates.
On Wednesday, several krewe members were inside the float warehouse in Tampa to make some final preparations ahead of Saturday.
“Putting numbers on the tags so the girls know where to hang up their beads, putting the waters on, the drinks on, and the girls are dropping off their bead bags,” Queen Anne’s Revenge Board Member Linda Cone said.
Queen Anne’s Revenge is made up of more than 200 members and is just one of several krewes participating in the parade.
“Very bright and colorful,” Cone said. “We look like parrots or cockatiels coming down the street.”
Cone also said to look out for their group’s four floats this year.
“We’ve got such a diverse group of women,” Queen Anne’s Revenge Board Member Nicole Polsky said. “We all come together from different walks of life and just have fun the day of Gasparilla.”
Members of the non-profit organization On Bikes were also seen sweeping the deck of their float and organizing beads to toss into the crowds.
Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for WFLA News Channel 8’s very own float on Saturday, The Faces of 8.
The Gasparilla Parade of Pirates begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Bay to Bay Boulevard and Bayshore Boulevard.
