VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – On Christmas evening, deputies were called to the scene in Deltona to rescue a 6-year-old boy from a pond close to his home, as reported by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.
The young boy, named Coco, is on the autism spectrum and nonverbal. Deputies noted that he has a known affinity for water. This isn’t the first time he needed help from a water body near his residence, with a similar incident occurring last summer.
“Following the event in August 2024, he began taking swimming lessons,” stated the official release.
Despite these precautions, Coco went missing once more. He was eventually located on Thursday night in yet another nearby pond, according to the sheriff’s office.
Authorities found Coco in chest-high water off Conyers Court at approximately 6:30 p.m. Though he was cold, he was thankfully unharmed.
“Deputies spoke with the family about improving precautionary measures on the house and having Coco wear his AngelSense tracker at all times,” the release finishes.
