Heroic Firefighters Save Feline Lives in Early Morning Arthur Blaze

ARTHUR, Ill. (WCIA) — In a dramatic rescue on Sunday morning, firefighters in Arthur successfully saved two cats from a blaze at a local residence.

According to Fire Chief Chris Helton, the incident occurred near the intersection of Union and Logan Streets at approximately 7:45 a.m. Upon arrival, the firefighting team encountered significant smoke and flames emanating from the structure.

Fortunately, the two individuals residing in the house managed to escape unharmed, as reported by Helton. However, they alerted the firefighters that two cats remained trapped inside. The firefighters diligently battled the inferno, eventually controlling it sufficiently to enter the building and retrieve the cats, both of which survived the ordeal.

The home is a total loss and the two people living there are displaced. Helton said they have family living in the area who will be helping them out.

The fire is not considered suspicious and is believed to have been started by the electrical.

Helton encouraged community members to check that their smoke alarms are installed and working properly. Atwood Fire Protection District and Arthur ambulance crews also responded to the scene Sunday morning. Crews were able to clear the scene of the fire around 2 p.m.
