MARION COUNTY, Fla. – Last week, a dramatic rescue unfolded in the Ocala National Forest, where deputies successfully saved a pregnant woman, a man, and three dogs, as reported by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
According to an official statement, the rescue operation took place on Friday. The group was found on the Florida Trail, nestled within the remote confines of the Juniper Prairie Wilderness.
“Around 3:15 p.m., a distress call was made when the couple began exhibiting symptoms of heat exhaustion while hiking the Florida National Scenic Trail,” the statement noted.
The couple informed emergency dispatchers that they had misjudged the intense heat, were nearly out of water, and faced a daunting hour-long trek back to the trailhead.
As conditions worsened and health risks escalated, the sheriff’s office deployed Air-1 to navigate the challenging landscape. The helicopter quickly identified the group, facilitating a swift rescue operation.
“The woman is around 25 weeks pregnant, and she was showing obvious signs of heat exhaustion,” the release reads. “After receiving an IV drip for dehydration, the couple and their dogs were safely evacuated from the wilderness area.”
