Heroic Springfield Firefighters Swiftly Tackle Blazing Garage Fire

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Firefighters in Springfield swiftly responded to a blaze that erupted in a detached garage on Friday afternoon.

In a social media update at 2:14 p.m., Springfield Fire Fighters Local 37 reported that crews were en route to tackle a structure fire on the 4200 block of S 3rd Street, where a detached garage was reportedly engulfed in flames. Engine 11 arrived first at the scene.

As the day progressed, Local 37 provided a further update, stating that firefighters had successfully reached the garage’s attic space and managed to bring the fire under control. They subsequently initiated ventilation procedures for the building.

The firefighters noted that their initial efforts to combat the fire were complicated by hoarder-like conditions within the garage. WCIA has attempted to contact Springfield Fire Fighters Local 37 and the Springfield Fire Department for further details, but has yet to receive a response from either party.
