WIMAUMA, Fla. (WFLA) — A Hillsborough County mother is demanding justice months after her only son was gunned down outside his home, and the man accused of pulling the trigger is still on the run.
Elizabeth Gomez said she wears her son Ramiro’s fingerprint around her neck every day. It’s a silver heart-shaped necklace she hasn’t taken off since April, the month she lost him.
“It’s horrifying,” she said. “Nobody wants to wake up to that call. I had just talked to my son the night before. I was in disbelief.”
Ramiro Muniz, a father of six, was shot and killed outside his Wimauma home in the early morning hours of April 12.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warrant for Jose Adan Longoria, who is now wanted for second-degree murder. Longoria is a convicted felon who was already on probation for attempted murder at the time of the shooting.
According to the warrant, multiple eyewitnesses placed Longoria at the scene. One witness told investigators Longoria pulled a gun from his pocket several times during a verbal altercation and was heard saying, “I got my gun.”
Court records also show Longoria violated the terms of his probation by possessing a firearm and failing to complete his court-ordered community service.
“There’s no closure,” Gomez said. “This man is still out there. I can’t sleep knowing he’s free to hurt someone else.”
In the months since her son’s death, Gomez has been printing flyers and handing them out across the county, hoping someone will recognize Longoria and call police.
“I believe if he could do this to my son after already serving time for attempted murder, he’ll do it again,” she said. “This is the life he chose.”
Ramiro was the only boy in a family of five siblings. His mother remembers him as a caring, funny, and deeply affectionate son.
“He always hugged me,” Gomez said. “We miss him.”
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said Jose Longoria is considered armed and dangerous. If you know where he is, you’re urged to call HCSO or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
