MATTOON, Ill. (WCIA) — Over 50 juniors and seniors from high schools participated in the inaugural welding competition hosted by Lake Land College last week. The senior with the highest score will earn a $500 scholarship applicable to their tuition at Lake Land College.
Carson Swinford, a high school student, has dedicated two years to honing his skills in the welding program.
“When I lower my hood, everything else just fades away,” Swinford shared. “The stress and homework just disappear from my mind.”
