RICHMOND/BURKE COUNTY, Ga. () – On November 10th at approximately 1:25 p.m., the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) received a request for assistance from the Burke County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center. The call concerned a search for suspects involved in a burglary at the Yo Mart Store on 5131 Mike Padgett Highway.
Upon arrival, RCSO deputies joined a Burke County deputy who reported that one suspect had escaped through the store’s rear door and disappeared into the woods behind the establishment.
Authorities quickly established a perimeter to contain the area.
The Richmond County K-9 Units, along with the RCSO Drone Team, were deployed to aid in the pursuit.
Using advanced technology, the drone surveyed the area while the K-9 team pursued a trail leading into the forest. K-9 Roy, a skilled tracker, successfully discovered the suspect concealed inside an abandoned vehicle.
The drone was deployed to assist in the search. The K-9 team located a track leading into the woods, where K-9 Roy successfully located the suspect hiding inside an abandoned vehicle.
The suspect, later identified as 49-year-old Christopher Quick, was taken into custody without further incident and brought back to the scene.
All four suspects and two vehicles were subsequently turned over to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.
Agencies assisting at the scene included the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol, K-9 Units, Drone Team, and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources represented by Officer Skyler Redmond.
Sheriff Gino Brantley stated, “Our expanded K-9 program and our use of technology such as drone deployment are playing a vital role in helping us reduce crime and apprehend criminals more effectively. The cooperation between agencies throughout the CSRA is as good as it gets, and together we are working every day to make this region safer for everyone who lives, works, and visits our area.”
