SAVANNAH, Ga. () — On Saturday, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. members of Savannah’s Gamma Sigma Omega chapter brought their mission “Service to all mankind” to life at their annual sisterhood retreat.
The sorority presented a $35,000 check to Savannah State University’s (SSU) Scholarship Endowment during the event at Embassy Suites in Pooler to support education.
“Our students have various needs,” said Adrian L. Scott, vice-president of University Advancement and executive director of SSU Foundation. “This will fill the gap for many of them who are close to graduation, for those who may have small financial needs as they’re getting ready for this semester or semesters to come.”
Mr. Scott also expressed his excitement about how the Gamma Sigma Omega Chapter’s contribution will provide support for students, helping them continue to pursue their educational goals and dreams.
“I hope they will look back and think that the members of Gamma Sigma Omega Chapter were for them to encourage them to uplift them through their academic journey,” said Nicole Williams, president of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Gamma Sigma Omega Chapter. “Know that we’re there for them for whatever they need.”
The sorority is represented by more than 365,000 women worldwide and ‘s very own Tina Tyus-Shaw is a proud member.
