Hoopeston teen cited in alleged hit-and-run crash; vehicle towed

HOOPESTON, Ill. (WCIA) — A 17-year-old from Hoopeston was cited for an alleged hit-and-run crash Thursday, and his vehicle was towed.

At approximately 5:10 p.m. on Oct. 2, Hoopeston Police officers responded to the intersection of S Market and E Orange Streets. According to police, a Chevrolet pickup (unit 1) driven by a 17-year-old male from Hoopeston was traveling northbound on Market when it proceeded into the intersection and struck another Chevrolet pickup (unit 2) driven by a 21-year-old Hoopeston man, which was traveling westbound on Orange.

Unit 2 was towed from the scene, and no injuries were reported. Unit 1 fled the scene but was later located. The driver of unit 1 was issued notice to appears for Vermilion County Court, his vehicle was towed, and he was issued the following citations:

  • Leaving scene of crash-vehicle damage
  • Failure to yield-stop or yield intersection
  • Graduated drive: More than one passenger under age 20
