(KTLA) – The music world mourns the loss of Neil Sedaka, an iconic voice whose career spanned more than sixty years, delivering timeless hits such as “Breaking Up Is Hard to Do” and “Laughter in the Rain.” The 86-year-old’s passing was confirmed through a heartfelt message on his Instagram account.
“Our family is heartbroken over the sudden loss of our cherished husband, father, and grandfather, Neil Sedaka,” the statement expressed. “He was a rock and roll legend, an inspiration to millions, but above all, to those who were fortunate enough to know him, he was an incredible person who will be profoundly missed.”
Sources close to the family revealed to TMZ that Sedaka felt unwell on Friday morning and was admitted to the hospital, where he later passed away.

In the late 1950s, Sedaka co-founded the Tokens before soaring to fame in the 1960s with hits like “Calendar Girl” and “Oh! Carol.” His career enjoyed a revival in the mid-1970s, marked by the success of tracks such as “Laughter in the Rain” and “Bad Blood.”
Over his illustrious career, Sedaka earned five Grammy nominations and was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
He’s survived by his wife Leba Strassberg and their two children.
