SPRING HILL, Fla. (WFLA) — A Spring Hill man was taken into custody Friday night for the attempted murder of his ex-wife, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said they received reports of a shooting around 9:14 p.m. Friday at the couple’s home on Higgins Street. According to officials, the couple was still living together with their two children despite their separation.
The woman told investigators she and her ex-husband, Jerimiah Andrew Carr, 44, had gotten into an argument after she received a call from her new boyfriend. They were in the garage when she said Carr grabbed a power drill and threatened her with it.
Out of fear for her safety, the woman armed herself with a knife, the sheriff’s office reported. Carr responded by going into the house and grabbing a firearm, which deputies said he tucked into his waistband.
He then flashed the gun at his ex-wife, telling her, “I’d kill you if I could get away with it,” according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies said it was only moments later that Carr took out the gun, pointed it in the woman’s direction and fired a single shot. However, the bullet did not strike her.
She then ran out of the home and called 911.
Investigators noted that Carr appeared intoxicated when they arrived at the home. The sheriff’s office said Carr declined to speak with investigators but was arrested on a charge of attempted murder based on the evidence gathered at the scene.
He was taken to the Hernando County Detention Center, where, as of Saturday, he was being held without bond due to the domestic nature of the charge.
The couple’s two children were not home at the time of the incident, according to authorities.
