In a striking case intertwining social media influence and legal accountability, a TikTok personality known for her divination card readings and true-crime theories is facing significant financial repercussions. This comes after she baselessly implicated a University of Idaho professor in the tragic murders of four students in 2022.
A federal judge in Idaho had earlier found Ashley Guillard, a Texas-based TikToker, guilty of defamation. Guillard had posted videos accusing Professor Rebecca Scofield of involvement in the deaths of students Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin. Last month, a jury delivered a verdict requiring Guillard to pay a hefty $10 million in damages.
The actual perpetrator of these murders, Bryan Kohberger, had confessed last year to the brutal crimes in Moscow, Idaho, and is currently serving a life sentence.
