In a significant update to the Illinois high school football calendar, member schools of the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) have voted to adjust the commencement date for practices starting in 2026. This decision, reached by a slim majority, was announced early Friday.
The IHSA released a statement detailing the outcome of the voting process, which concluded at midnight on February 12. The newly approved by-law will affect both the beginning of the 2026 football season and the mandatory number of practices each player must complete prior to participating in their first game.
