CENTRAL ILLINOIS (WCIA) – Saturday proved to be an exciting day for local cross-country teams and athletes as they secured their spots at the upcoming IHSA state meet at Detweiller Park.
Sectional races held across the state showcased impressive performances, with participants clocking fast times despite varying weather conditions.
1A Cumberland Sectional
- St. Joseph-Ogden finishes first as a team on the boys’ side with 114 points. Georgetown-Ridge Farm was second with 117, Cumberland finishes third with 121, Unity fourth with 140 and Effingham-St. Anthony fifth with 147
- Tuscola’s Blake McNeese was second individually, running 15:15, Monticello’s Eli Anderson was third at 15:16, Sullivan’s Johnathan Iacobazzi fourth at 15:16
- Shelbyville wins as a team on the girls’ side with 91 points. St. Joseph-Ogden was second with 119 points, followed by Marshall (134), Uni-High (156) and Unity (164)
- Effingham-St. Anthony’s Isabella Keller is the girls’ individual winner, running 16:39. Shelbyville’s Tessa Bowers was second at 17:02, followed by Tuscola’s Kate Foltz
2A Mattoon Sectional
- Mahomet-Seymour takes the top spot on the boys’ side in the team totals, with 97 points. Taylorville was second with 130.
- Olney-Richland County’s Quaid Berger ran 14:38 to finish second individually. Taylorville’s Liam Bettis was fourth at 15:15
- On the girls’ side, Glenwood was purely dominant, winning with just 36 points and taking spots 1-3 individually. The Titans were led by Ally Londrigan (17:26), Sophie Rentmeister (17:49) and Ashlyn Chopra (17:54)
- Mahomet-Seymour was second with 88 points, Rochester third with 111, Springfield-SHG fourth with 171, Mt. Zion fifth with 179
- Taylorville’s Elayna Harker finished fourth, SHG’s Paityn Brady was fifth
