CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The Illini football team took a unique approach to their spring practice, stepping away from the usual routine to add a heartwarming twist.

During the University of Illinois’ Mom’s Weekend, the players invited their mothers onto the practice field, continuing a special tradition for the second consecutive year.

These moments on the field are cherished by the football families, who appreciate the chance to bond in this unique setting.

Brittanie Trimble, mother of wide receiver Brayden Trimble, expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “I absolutely love it. I asked Brayden about Mom’s Weekend months ago, so I was thrilled to come down and enjoy this time with the boys. Coach B is amazing for organizing this. It’s truly a blessing to include the moms.”

Courtney Shaw, mother of defensive lineman Kingston Shaw, echoed this sentiment, stating, “It really feels like FamILLy here. It’s not just a slogan; it’s a genuine standard and spirit that you feel among the players and coaches. The unity and brotherhood are palpable.”

Head coach Bret Bielema said family attendance for the practice nearly doubled from a similar practice held last season.
