URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — The Urbana Police Department announced that one of its sergeants has been named the state ambassador for a countrywide organization.
In a Facebook post Saturday, the department announced that Sgt. Matthew McKinney has been named the Illinois Ambassador for the Law Enforcements Community Engagement Network (LECEN). LECEN is a national organization dedicated to advancing trust-building and relationship-focused policing.
The department said that the selection of Sgt. McKinney speaks volumes about the caliber of officers that work in the City of Urbana.
“From local initiatives to statewide leadership, Sgt. McKinney continues to raise the bar, setting the standard for what community engagement in law enforcement should look like,” the department said in its post.
Additionally, they said that his work reminds them that real leadership isn’t focused on a title, but instead on connection, integrity and showing up for the people that officers serve.
