CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — With their victory over the Maryland Terrapins, the Illinois football team has propelled Bret Bielema to become the most successful Illini head coach within a five-year span.
On a special day dedicated to honoring military personnel, the Illini welcomed Maryland, having already secured their bowl eligibility two weeks earlier with a win against Rutgers.
The Terrapins struck first, putting up a field goal on their opening drive. However, Illinois quickly responded as Luke Altmyer connected with Hudson Clement for a 22-yard touchdown.
Before heading into halftime, Kaden Feagin extended Illinois’ lead with another touchdown, bringing the score to 14-6.
Early in the second half, the dynamic duo of Clement and Altmyer teamed up once more, while the Illini defense held Maryland scoreless after the break. David Olano contributed with a 33-yard field goal, sealing a 24-6 victory and boosting Illinois’ record to 7-3.
Up next, Illinois travels to Madison, Wisconsin, to face the Badgers on Saturday, November 22, with kickoff time and TV assignment still to be announced.
