CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) – Reports have surfaced indicating that the Illinois football team is set to participate in the 2025 Music City Bowl in Nashville.
According to On3 Sports and CBS Sports, the Illini are gearing up for a showdown in Nashville, Tennessee at the Music City Bowl.
The game is slated for December 30 and will see Illinois facing off against an SEC team. This matchup will unfold at Nissan Stadium, the home field of the Tennessee Titans.
Illinois Athletics is expected to make an official announcement on Sunday, featuring insights from athletic director Josh Whitman and head coach Bret Bielema during a press conference.
This will be the Illini’s debut appearance in the Music City Bowl and their first bowl game experience in Nashville. It also marks their third consecutive bowl game against an SEC opponent, following a loss to Mississippi State in the 2022 ReliaQuest Bowl and a victory over South Carolina in the 2024 Cheez-It Citrus Bowl.
The Illini finished the regular season 8-4. 14 Illinois players earned All-Big Ten recognition.
