CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — On a night when Terrence Shannon Jr. joined elite company in Illinois history, the Illini’s second-half performance was anything but.

Shannon Jr.’s jersey was unveiled upside-down at halftime:

Illinois got out to a fast start taking a 17-6 lead in the first half. That lead would grow to as much as 16 after a Will Riley jumper with 8:46 left in the first half.

A Michigan State run before the half made it a 41-37 lead for the Illini at the half.

The game went back and forth early in the second half, with Illinois taking a 65-64 lead with 8:29 left.

Sparty closed the game on a 15-0 run, as Illinois didn’t score the rest of the way, missing it’s last 19 shots.

Illinois finished the game going 7-33 from three-point range.

Michigan State outrebounded the Illini 41-36, with Jaxon Kohler going for a game-high 23 points.
