MADISON, Wisc. (WCIA) — In the first game of Morez Johnson Jr.’s injury, Illinois still struggled to put five healthy players on the floor, falling to No. 11 Wisconsin.
Shortly before tip-off it was announced that Tomislav Ivisic was questionable to play. He did not start for Illinois but did play 21 minutes.
Jake Davis saw the first start of his Illinois career, but after spending the second half in the locker room, it was revealed that he was sick shortly after pregame warmups. Brad Underwood shared postgame that Tre White was also dealing with illness and that the team opted not to shake hands postgame to avoid spreading any sickness to Wisconsin’s team and staff.
“At the end of the day, guys, we don’t have very many healthy bodies,” said Underwood. “38 years, I’ve never seen anything like what’s going through our team.”
The 95-74 loss marked Illinois’s first loss to Wisconsin in nine meetings. Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn led the scoring effort with 17 points.
Illinois’s next game is one of the biggest of the year, facing No. 3 Duke in Madison Square Garden on Saturday, February 22, at 7 p.m.
