CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Illini men’s and women’s track and field have recently traveled for meets in Florida and Virginia, but they get to host a meet of their own this weekend.

Illinois will welcome teams from in and around the state for the Fighting Illini Twilight on Saturday at 1:00 pm at Demirjian Park, allowing the Champaign-Urbana community to see various events in person.

“It’s going to be great. I know when my family’s around, it’s always like, good,” senior thrower Abria Smith said. “It’s very comforting and kind of reminds me of where I started and where it all began.”

“It’s always nice whenever a family can make an easier trip to come watch their kids or athletes compete,” J.C. Lambert said. The alumni will be able to come back and see this great team that we’ve built up.”

The Orange and Blue will also host the Gary Wieneke Memorial May 2 and 3 as well.
