Illinois Treasurer's Office Auction Features Iconic Trading Cards of Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant

ILLINOIS (WCIA) — This week, an exciting opportunity awaits collectors and enthusiasts as the Illinois State Treasurer’s ICash Auction showcases an array of vintage jewelry, rare coins, and coveted collectibles, including basketball cards and comics.

The auction is scheduled to run from January 23 to February 1. Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs announced that the event will feature a total of 150 lots, with some lots containing multiple items, offering bidders a chance to acquire unique and valuable pieces.

Among the standout items are collectible basketball cards featuring Hall of Fame legends Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Patrick Ewing. Additionally, comic book fans will be delighted to find issues spotlighting iconic characters such as the Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, and Spawn.

The Treasurer’s Office holds these auctions throughout the year because it doesn’t have the space to hold all the items indefinitely. Frerichs added that the auction items typically have not been touched by their owners for 10 years. And, all the money made from the auction will be held for the rightful owners, “no matter how long it takes.”

The Treasurer’s Office also encourages residents to search ICASH, the state’s unclaimed property website, to find missing money that should be returned to them. Illinois has returned over $2 billion in assets since 2015.
